WHAT ARE HIGH EFFICIENCY PRODUCTS?

It is more common today than ever to hear the term “High Efficiency” when talking about cleaning products and appliances. High-efficiency washers such as the Whirlpool® Duet® saves time with fewer, larger loads, and lowers your water and energy bills by helping conserve resources.

For best washing performance, use a High Efficiency (HE), or low-sudsing, detergent such as Tide HE . Regular detergents may cause over sudsing in the washer. If a High Efficiency detergent is unavailable, use 1/2 the recommended amount of regular detergent. Use of regular detergent will lead to unsatisfactory performance over time. Most detergents formulated for hand-washing are not meant for front-loading washers and may cause over sudsing. Start with 1/4 the recommended amount. If over sudsing occurs, try a detergent formulated for high efficiency washers.

WASHERS – VACATION, STORAGE, AND MOVING CARE

Install and store your washer where it will not freeze. Because some water may stay in the hoses, freezing can damage your washer. If storing or moving your washer during freezing weather, winterize it.

Non-Use Or Vacation Care:

Operate your washer only when you are at home. If you will be on vacation or not using your washer for an extended period of time, you should:

Unplug washer or disconnect power.

Turn off the water supply to the washer. This helps avoid accidental flooding (due to a water pressure surge) while you are away.

Slightly open door to provide ventilation.

To Winterize Washer:

Put 1-qt (1 L) of R.V. type antifreeze in the drum.

Run washer on a DRAIN/SPIN cycle.

Unplug washer or disconnect power.

Shut off both water faucets.

Disconnect water inlet hoses from faucets and drain.

WHEN MOVING A REFRIGERATOR, WAIT A WHILE BEFORE RESTARTING

It makes a difference how a freezer, refrigerator or icemaker is transported. If the appliance is moved on its side or back, it must stand upright for 24 hours before being restarted. If the unit is transported upright, it may be restarted immediately.  Lubricating oil for the refrigeration compressor can flow out of the crankcase, if the unit is not upright. Running the unit without oil can ruin the compressor, which is a major problem.

DOES YOUR DISHWASHER LEAVE A FILM OR RESIDUE ON YOUR DISHES?

Due to changes in dishwasher detergent formulation (chiefly removal of phosphates), poor dishwashing results can be experienced. One option to improve dishwashing results is through the use of a dishwasher detergent “booster”, which assists the dishwasher detergent by “replacing” the action that phosphates provided. This is particularly useful if you have hard water conditions. There are several of these boosters on the market, with brand names such as Lime Fresh, LemiShine and Finish Power Up that can help eliminate the film and residue from your dishes.

CLEAN DRYER VENTING

Lint build up in the dryer venting reduces efficiency and is also a potential fire hazard. It is a good practice to remove the venting from your dryer and clean out any lint build up, at least on an annual basis. If the venting is not accessible due to being installed in the walls or ceiling, you may want to hire a professional vent cleaning company. This will also help reduce dry time and save you money on power bills.

INSPECTING WASHER WATER SUPPLY HOSES

Washer fill hoses can crack over time, and create the possibility of  flood. It is a good idea to regularly inspect the condition of the hose connections at the water supply tap and at the connections to the washer. Look for cracks, evidence of leaking, or weak spots (bulges) in the hose and replace the hose if any of these are seen. A good practice is to replace the fill hoses about every 5 years.  We recommend a steel braided hose for additional protection against leaks and breaks.
